DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE SURGERY!!
One Week Before Surgery
Take 500 milligrams or more of vitamin C daily; take this in addition to any
multi-vitamin you may be currently taking. Don’t take vitamin E.
Take no aspirin or ibuprofen products, (i.e. Bufferin, Anacin, Advil, Motrin,
Datril, Anacin-free). Tylenol is okay.
DO NOT SMOKE! This may cause the skin to die. If you smoke you must stop at
least 4 weeks before surgery.
Wash face and hair with Hibiclens or Phisoderm (liquid surgical soap). Take
caution that the soap does not get into the eyes or mouth.
Have on Hand at Home
Fill all prescriptions given to you at your pre-op visit
Darvocet or Lortab is for your pain.
Keflex is your antibiotic - take all!
Small bottle of Hibiclens (or other liquid surgical soap).
Small tube of bacitracin or neosporin ointment
Q-tips
Small bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide
Extra pillows to sleep elevated
4" x 4" gauze pads
Either crushed ice with small ziploc bags or gloves, or frozen peas (to make
ice packs)
Roll of 1/2" adhesive tape
Extra-Strength Tylenol
Saline nasal spray
Morning of the Surgery
Wash face and hair with Hibiclens. Do not get it in your eyes.
Wear NO make-up at all on your face. If you do, you will be asked to remove
it when you get here.
For men, shave as usual.
Wear casual loose clothing; something that buttons or zips in the front (i.e.
jogging suit) DO NOT WEAR JEANS. Wear socks.
DO NOT BRING JEWELRY OR VALUABLES TO THE OFFICE!! WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE
FOR LOST OR MISPLACED ITEMS.
Your support person should remain with you for at least 24 hours.
