A procedure introduced in the United States in 1982, suction lipectomy removes localized collections of fatty tissue in several areas of the body.
By using a high vacuum device, Dr. Martin can suction fat from the legs, abdomen, arms, calfs, chest, face and neck.
The increasing popularity of suction lipectomy is due to the safety of the technique but certainly requires an artistic touch for good results.
Liposuction leaves only minute scars, often as short as one-half inch long.
Suction lipectomy is not a substitute for the results achieved through proper diet and exercise, nor is it a cure for obesity. To get the most from this procedure, you should be at a reasonable weight that you can maintain long term with a reasonable diet and level of exercise. Suction lipectomy removes fat, but will not eliminate dimpling(i.e.-cellulite) or tighten loose skin.
If your skin has lost much of its elasticity, Dr. Martin may recommend a skin tightening procedure (thigh lift, buttock lift or arm lift). These procedures are effective but leave permanent scars.
Following surgery, you will wear a garment for three weeks to promote skin shrinkage and to minimize swelling and bruising. If you have had surgery below the waist, you will be advised to wear a long-legged garment for a few weeks as you resume your normal routine.
